The little digest with the big imagination
RANDOM REALITIES Magazine was our first foray into the world of small press publishing. Between 1992 - 1995 we published 8 issues. By issue #3, our "little digest with the big imagination" was being distributed to independent book stores from coast to coast. In 1993, the Small Press Writers and Artists Organization (SPWAO) honored us with two prestigious awards: Best New Magazine and Best New Editor for yours truly. I remain very proud of those accomplishments to this day.
We have a limited supply of all 8 issues available for sale. A couple of issues are close to selling out. A few of these issues are now considered collector's items (I occasionally see a copy selling on eBay for far above the original cover price). So take a look. Hope you find something you like.

Random Realities Magazine Premier Issue - Summer 1992 52 pages
We launched in the summer of 1992, getting off to a humble beginning. All contributors were members of the Graphos Fiction Writers group, and most copies were sold to family and friends around the Atlanta area.
Fiction:
Michael Bailey - "Shadowlight"
Jeff Dennis - "The Fjords of Vankosh"
Patricia Yoder - "Tribe of the Bear"
Cathy Shanks - "Rabbit Habits"
Sherry Dee Haney - "Jacob"
Michael S. Watkins - "Draftee"
Art: Cheryl Dennis, Larry Hammack, and Cathy Shanks (cover artist)
Random Realities Magazine #2 - Spring 1993 72 pages
RR #2 was our first attempt at a digest size format after the full size premier. This cover was our most controversial, raising the ire of many who claimed we were godless heathens, which couldn't be further from the truth. I find the whole affair comical now, though this issue cost us a few subscribers, which we could ill afford back then.
Fiction:
Lorin Emery - "Handy"
Cathy Shanks - "The Eyes of the Raven"
J. C. Hendee - "The Bigot's Boy"
Jeffrey Thomas - "Psychometric Idol"
Sherry Dee Haney - "The Lady"
Andrew J. Cunningham - "Roundabout"
Jeff Dennis - "Hologram Sam"
Art: Allen Koszowski, Cathy Shanks, Jeffrey Thomas, Larry Hammack, Cheryl Dennis, and Ron Leming (cover artist)
Book Reviews: Michael S. Watkins
Video Reviews: Cathy Shanks

This was our first nationally distributed issue, the one that put us on the North American map.

Lenora K. Rogers - "An Evening of Dance"
Jim Lee - "The Very Last Battle of Caleb
Morse"
Michael Bailey - "Nevermore"
Yvonne Navvarro "Abraham"

Bind"

Random Realities Magazine #4 - Fall 1993 76 pages
This issue was our first wraparound cover, a brilliant pen-and-ink twisted masterpiece by one of my favorite illustrators, Jeffrey Thomas. This one opened a lot of eyes, and sold quite a few copies, allowing us to substantially increase our circulation with the next issue.

Fiction:
Lela E. Buis - "The Hunt"
David Memmott - "Closing Ceremonies"
Kurt Newton - "The Hornet Priest"
Mark D. Stucky - "Ghostslinger"

Interview with Jeffrey Thomas (prolific short story author and small press artist) by Jeff Dennis
Random Realities Magazine #5 -Summer 1994 76 pages
Another fabulous wraparound cover, this time by David Grilla. Like Jeffrey Thomas, David lives in Massachussetts. Tthere must be something in that New England air! Either that, or the water! We contracted Dave Grilla after I was so impressed with the illustrations he did for my short story, "Last Call" in STRANGE DAYS Magazine.

Fiction:
R. Franklin Argo - "After the Dust Clears"
Scott Thomas - "The Blind Woman's
Bridge"
David Howell - "The Headsman's Ax"

Book Reviews: Ralph Gamelli and Jeff Dennis
Video Reviews: Cathy Shanks
Random Realities Magazine #6 - Spring 1995 72 pages
With RR #6, we went with our first color masthead and two-color wraparound cover, a truly haunting and captivating illustration done by my lovely and talented wife, Cheryl Dennis. The added flair justified the cover price increase. Actually, the graphic above doesn't do it justice ... you should have seen the original art!

Fiction:
Karen Jordan Allen - "Crab Woman"
Paula Harmon Davis - "The Perfect Jewel"
Jeff Dennis "Insomniacs Anonymous"
Suzanne S. Robinson - "The Eyes Have It"

Random Realities Magazine #7 - Summer 1995 76 pages
While this issue was in production, I met one of my favorite small press authors, Michael A. Arnzen, Stoker Award-winning author of the Dell-Abyss novel, GRAVE MARKINGS. We hooked up at the 1995 World Horror Convention here in Atlanta, and hit it off so well I did a lengthy interview with him. That interview generated a ton of mail, and is the centerpiece of this issue.

Fiction:
Mary Soon Lee - "Dry Water"
Russell Underwood - "Boneshakers"
D. M. Recktenwalt - "Predators"

Random Realities Magazine #8 - Fall 1995 76 pages
Sadly, we knew before publication that this would be our last issue. We just couldn't survive without more advertising revenue. But we went out with a thunderous bang with our final offering. Artist Jeffrey Thomas visited his darkly comical psyche to come up with this wonderfully twisted wraparound cover idea that he titled "Halloween Parade II."

Ralph Gamelli - "Just Another Doomsday"
